Home / IRS News / ACR Asks YOU to Contact a Member of Congress

The 113th Congress has a unique opportunity to impact two issues of importance to radiology: National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding and permanent sustainable growth rate (SGR) reform. ACR is asking you to contact your Members of Congress and urge them to make their leadership aware of their strong support for action on both of these issues before Congress adjourns.

NIH Issue–
• NIH budget has been dramatically reduced
• Medical research grants for research affected
• Impact on innovation of medical advancements

NIH Ask –
• Members of Congress need to restore NIH funding to pre-sequestration levels
• Allow the NIH to continue its support of physicians and scientists who are making real progress in bringing treatments and cures to patients

SGR Issue–
• In March of 2014 Congress came to an ACR-supported policy agreement
• It repealed the current flawed SGR and implemented meaningful Medicare payment reforms. However, it has not been passed

SGR Ask –
• The 113th Congress needs to pass SGR before end of year or the legislation will have to be renegotiated and reintroduced in the 114th Congress, resulting in more temporary patches
