Welcome to the Illinois Radiological Society (IRS) and our website. The site has been designed to allow easy communication between the IRS and its members, in particular to serve as a resource regarding the activities of the IRS and the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The IRS is your state chapter of the ACR, and it is comprised of two divisions, the Chicago Radiological Society (CRS) and the Central Illinois Radiological Society (CIRS). Approximately 2/3 of our members are from the CRS, with about 1/3 from the CIRS. I currently have the privilege of serving as President from the CRS division.

IRS membership records are maintained by the ACR. It is therefore important that you communicate with the ACR Membership Services whenever you change jobs, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers or email addresses. You can check your information on their website (acr.org). If anything is incorrect, please email the IRS at info@illradsoc.org with your accurate information.

The ACR and IRS are advocates for Illinois radiologists, radiation oncologists, radiation physicists and associated members-in-training. Recent accomplishments nationally have included the roll back of the professional component reimbursement to the Multiple Procedure Payment Reduction policy (MPPR) from 25 percent to 5 percent and statewide the expansion of coverage for digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT). Many challenges – in particular navigating the uncertain effects of the Medicare Access and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) Reauthorization Act (MACRA) – await the radiology community. While success is never guaranteed, both the IRS and ACR are well aware of the issues and will be addressing them as best we can.

I look forward to your active involvement with the IRS. We urge all IRS members to attend ACR 2017 – May 21–25, 2017 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC – and specifically to participate in Capitol Hill Day. We also encourage you to pursue Fellowship status with the ACR, an achievement that only about 10 percent of our membership reach.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please never hesitate to contact me.
